Holy Grail: Lay 0-0 at Half Time

I have come across an interesting riddle which is worthwhile mentioning on Soccerwidow… This mystery was presented by a Dr Slicer approximately two years ago in the Betfair Community Forum and still causes headaches for many people!

Dr Slicer describes that he found the ‘holy grail’ or a ‘no-lose strategy’ and since then he has not lost a single football bet which is suitable for his formula. The riddle is simple:

Placing 2 bets before kick off:
First bet: Laying 0-0 half time result
Second bet is guaranteed to lose should the first bet win

If the first bet loses a third bet is placed during half time and an adjustment of the second bet may be needed.

However, it is not revealed what bets 2 and 3 comprise.

The whole strategy with a calculated staking plan guarantees a profit between 9 to 12% per match. One more little thing: The matches must have a clear advantage for the home team. Whoever finds the answer will have found the holy grail 🙂

Here are a few links to some of the forums where this mystery has been discussed with many suggestions and thoughts, but without solutions:

Although in many forums it is said that this is a hoax and not possible… My opinion is that it is most certainly not a hoax. One must think ‘outside the box’ in order to find the identities of bets 2 and 3.

HINT: Don’t limit your thinking to the correct score market only and it’s not only the 0-0 full time result which is guaranteed to lose should the first bet win. Reverse engineering is needed to solve this riddle!

Can anyone find the solution?

Your Soccerwidow
x

Forget my last response on the 0-0 fulltime, of course you can do that. Sorry…

One more observation, you cant make make a lay on 0-0 at full time if the first bet is lost

I dont think this going to work, one example with normal odds: Lay 0-0 half time around 3.00. over 1,5 total around 1,4.
You can never make up for the loss with your third bet. If you can give an example it would be great, i like the idea with a second bet on over 1,5 goals but i cant make it profitable. a Comment from soccerwidow should be interesting on this idea too.

After thinking a while on this one I think I get it:

1st bet is Lay 0 – 0 at Half Time
2nd bet is Over 1.5 goals in Total

The 3rd bet is placed only if the 1st bet is lost on half time and is Lay 0 – 0 at Full Time.

But for this to work we have to make sure the odds are “right” and the sums we play should be calculated very carefully.

Rasmus, the numbers don’t add up to what you re saying.
If you have 92% success rate with 12% return you’d hardly make a profit.
Say you have a house 100 $ and you bet 10 bucks on 10 games.
Say you win 9 out of 10 (according to your 92%) you’d have made (10+1,2)*9 $ on lost 10. Take out the initial investment and your left with a profit of 0.8 $ on a 100 $ investment. That’s hardly making a comfortable living.

Rasmus probably won’t lose his stake of 10 in total. If his system works correct, the 8% losses will be limited so that the overall winning percentage can be 12%.

Furthermore to my previous posts, I am now making a comfortable living out of the betting markets. I have had to tweak my system over the last few months and it now makes me an average of 12% return per game. It’s not 100% though….more like 92%.

    Hi Soccer Widow,

You said; “Bet365 had this kind of combination bets accepted at the time of writing the article.”

You’re probably right. Last night I did the Second Bet as suggested by you on 8th February ’12 and Bet365 refused my ‘Multibet’. All bets were in RED and only allowed as single punts.

Solution to this is for punters to go to Oddschecker.com and under Tools download Dutching Calculator. Oddschecker will then tell them how much to bet on each outcome.

Enter these figures into Bet365 (or any other bookie) to get the return required.

    Good luck

    Silver Surfer :o)

I wonder why Rasmus never returned…

You will find a lot of threads on a lot of forums regarding Slicers bet.
OK, let’s examine what this is all about?

    1. Slicer enjoyed winding people up and took great pleasure in knowing people were wasting their time and actively encouraged them to waste even more of their precious time.

    2. Various spammers and con men rose up to entice the gullible to part with their money. And there were many suckers who were actually begging for their money to be stolen from them.

    3. If there were such a system, would any one sell it? And would it work after becoming public? Answer: NO

    4. If there were such a system then it could be applied to any team game involving to half’s consequently sending book makers out of business in double quick time.

    5. Are there really any gamblers still searching for this elusive system? If so you clearly have learning difficulties. Search the forums and you will see all the fools before you that have been sucked in by Slicer, and Slicer masquerading as other people selling his “system”

Any betting systems incorporate at the very best, simple mathematics.
This is not a riddle, but another article full of nonsense. Anyone who is able to do simple maths calculations such as their 10 X tables will realise this.

  11. 6 June 2012 at 1:30 pm #

Cant be done. The ‘Slicer Holy Grail’ strategy is a prime example (a good one at that) of phishing at its best.

Do you not think for one moment, with all the intellectual minds around the world who use Betfair, that they would have come up with a strategy? The way the odds are calculated make it near impossible to have a “no lose strategy”.

It sucks a lot of people in though 😉

Very interesting reading, but no one has the same thoughts lika I do.

I will share my approach when Roma – Genoa is finished tonight.

    Very exciting !

Hi Rasmus, good luck to you!

Please check out the German version of this article (https://www.soccerwidow.com/2011/10/legen-0-0-halbzeit/ Babelfish or Google translator will do an automatic translation). There was quite a lively discussion and I have also published a solution to this riddle. However, there are probably many more strategies.

It would be great if you would share your approach here.

  14. 19 March 2012 at 3:18 pm #

After many hours of thinking I have finally found the solution 😀

My calculations indicate that I can guarantee myself a profit between 10 to 20% per match.

I can’t lose ! I will do a test on tonights match between Roma – Genoa.

I don’t think there is a solution. The closest i’ve found is greening up in play in a similar way.
